Book Notes from Susan
February – Let’s make it a book month!
Island Bound Bookstore is offering a free "book rose" (a rose made out of a page of a book) with the purchase of a book for your valentine. We have Valentine cards, gifts, and books with themes about all kinds of love — love of family, love of friends, love of nature, love of community — and of course, books and poetry that celebrate your special someone.
Additionally, an art class with Lisa Schaller is scheduled for Wednesday, February 15 at 6 p.m. A perfect Valentine's Day gift for that special someone. You can e-mail email@example.com or call 401-466-8878 to reserve space for the class.
February also introduces our frequent buyer program. Every $100 spent at Island Bound will earn you a $10 credit on your next purchase. And if you aren’t on-island, we are offering free shipping on web orders for the month of February.
No better way to survive February than with great books to read! Some of the special books we can recommend include Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance – named by the New York Times as one of “six books to help understand Trump’s win” – a book that can generate the right kind of important conversation that we need; A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles (author of Rules of Civility) – a New York Times bestseller and more awards than we have room to list; Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly (another bestseller and important companion to the film and to our understanding of the contributions made by African-American women to our space program); Secondhand Time: The Last of the Soviets by Svetlana Alexievich, which won the Nobel Prize -- a symphonic oral history about the disintegration of the Soviet Union and the emergence of a new Russia; and last, but not least, The Shepherd’s Life: Modern Dispatches from an Ancient Landscape by James Rebanks, a captivating book about continuity and roots and a sense of belonging – and another international phenomenon. We have all these and more.
We’d love to hear from you about what you’re reading. We’re introducing readers’ picks and kids’ picks to our website and in the store, so let us hear from you.
We look forward to hearing from you.
